Technical Illustration is the use of imagery to visually communicate information of a mechanical, scientific, or specialized nature. Technical illustrations can be component drawings, diagrams or images that inform and instruct. The aim of technical illustration is to generate expressive images that effectively communicate information to the viewer.   They do not generally involve the subtleties or asthetics typical of traditional art, as the purpose of the technical illustration is only to communicate a specific idea or concept.
